橙果的設計得獎,對蔣友柏而言,只是錦上添花,最重要的,還是要替客戶賺錢,「你付我錢,我就幫你賺錢」是他的原則,與別的設計公司最大的不同是,橙果不會為設計而設計,卻會為獲利而調整設計。即使經濟不景氣,橙果還是台灣最賺錢的設計公司之一,而且還愈賺愈多。二○○三年成立的橙果,○七年營收已破億元,至今逐年增長,譬如,他們幫捷安特設計的腳踏車,就幫捷安特賺進了三十億元;儘管這麼賺錢,蔣友柏還是要說,「(光靠)設計不是一門好生意!」為什麼?For DEM Inc. to win a design award is merely icing on the cake for Demos Chiang; more important is helping clients earn money. “If you pay me, I will help you make money” is his principle. The difference between DEM Inc. and other design firms is that it does not design for the sake of design; rather, it adjusts its designs to earn profits. Despite the economic recession, DEM Inc. is still one of the most profitable design firms in Taiwan, and profits are rising continuously. Established in 2003, DEM Inc.’s revenue broke the NT$100 million mark in 2007, and it is increasing on an annual basis. For instance, the bicycle they designed for Giant allowed Giant to earn NT$3 billion. Despite being so profitable, Demos Chiang still says that “Design alone is not a good business!” Why is that?
